CITY POLITICS
The Turku City Council is elected for a four-year term through municipal elections held every four years. For the 2025–2029 term, the City Council consists of 67 city councillors. To facilitate their work, the councillors form groups. The Green Council Group currently includes 11 official councillors, along with their corresponding deputy councillors. Information about the entire council group can be found on the Turku Greens website.
The City Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the city’s operations and finances. It determines the composition of the city’s other governing bodies, such as committees and their memberships. Furthermore, the Council decides on the division of responsibilities between elected officials and appointed city officials.
The association’s role in urban policy
Turku Green Youth and Students aims to actively influence municipal politics, particularly through young city councillors. We highlight the initiatives they put forward and also express our own stances through our communications. We share the values and goals of the council group, and we strive to promote them through the activities of our association.
